The Groaveri church Brasov

The Groaveri church Brasov named also Sf Paraschiva church was initially under the service of the fortress garrison Brasov. The church construction started in 1876 having the Orthodox Church in Vienna as model, but until 1954 it has functioned only as a chapel. Only after this year it becomes Patriarchal church.

Priest Bartholomeu Baiulescu, the rector at that time of Brasov requested money in 1872 through a public document to buy the necessary land for the construction of the church and cemetery. The chapel becomes the parochial church of Groaveri after Miron Romanul the Bishop of Sibiu gave his blessing and it continued functioning until the church of “Adormirea Maicii Domnului” from Council square became functional. The Groaveri Church was built out of stone and bricks in a cross shape with an octagonal dome. The paintings inside the church were made by the artists Vasu Iosif and Misu Pop. The 10 towers defining the great building can be seen from yard. Among the personalities buried in the cemetery of this church are: Andrei Muresianu, Archbishop Bartholomeu Baiulescu, Sextil Puscariu, Misu Pop, etc. All these personalities made the Groaveri Church more notorious in Brasov.
