Weaver Bastion

The Weaver Bastion is the work and toil of the craftsmen belonging to the weaver guild, being built during 1421-1436. The area this fortification had to protect was meadow below Mount Tampa situated on the south-west corner of the fortress.
The bastion was built in two stages, so during the first stage was made the first two floors and including many solid galleries built from oak beams and courtyard could join in time of danger hundreds of weavers including their goods. At the first level are visible the big loopholes for bombs and harquebuses. Manoeuvres of the villains were closely followed by two turrets representing the observation points.

During the second stage were erected the towers and also two galleries levels. An imposing building, having the role of a patio guarding fortification in the southern corner, managed to monitor the entire external area of ??the bastion. This shows the science rigor of the builder knights of that era, representing also a solid bastion of resistance. Still visible are the two periods that can be read on the observation tower in the north-west side of the building: the year 1573 when the bastion was complete and the year of the reconstruction, 1750, after its collapse in 1710. Access towards this monument of medieval architecture is from George Cosbuc Street through a gate reinforced by a tower and walking down a 5 meters hallway. Closed area inside the bastions walls is of ??1616 m? and the walls have a 3 meters thickness and 1.5 meters on top. The Weavers bastion had various functions including the storage of guild documents, meetings for military training or to confirm the beginners in the weaver craft.
