The access into the tower was through a gate placed at 2 meters high and connection with the fortress was maintained through a bridge and tunnel. The square form tower aim was to prevent enemies approaching the fortress walls, being also provided with two shooting holes on each side. The strategically placed guards alert the population when an invasive approach was coming or a scorching fire. In 1756 was the last time the tower is used, when during the terrible plague those who watched over the sanitary cordon near the city stood in the tower. Inside the Black Tower is allocated an exhibition pavilion Brasov County History Museum, hosting exhibition of artefacts designed by blacksmiths, tin or dealers craftsmen guilds of Brasov medieval period. Indoor the tower with galleries on three floors houses a museum with temporary exhibitions. It cannot be lost from sight even at night, because the light sources at the base of the tower turn into a favourable night attraction. The drawbridge, as the gateway disappeared a long time ago and can now be reached by a road practicable after the Dupa Ziduri alley that leads exactly to the Black Tower.
