The Tanners Bastion

The Tanners Bastion or Furriers Bastion with its semi-circular shape and with one side open towards the Drapers Bastion was built around the year 1452 and entrusted to defend the fortress guild "red tanners”. At the beginning of the construction, the bastion face was provided from alternating stone and brick with holes for molten pitch and only two loopholes (for embattled canopy and grazing shooting). Later were built brick arches, still visible today. The gallery built along the wall allows communication with the Drapers Bastion fortress.

The Tanners Bastion role in 1525 was to represent the gate of the city. Back then the gate was closed and the bastion was fortified, but since 1785 the bastion is again used as a gate. Following the renovations made over the years it has been built inside the fortification a children's playground. Any tourist or walker around the Tampa area can admire today the Tanners Bastion, after the last renovation in 2005, standing prove for the defence history of Brasov.
