The Ropemaker’s Bastion

The Ropemaker’s Bastion has the shape of a hexagon with a height of 10-12 meters, 2 meters thick walls built of stone and brick and is equipped with firing holes for moving parts.

Positioned on the north side of the hill Tampa, the Bastion is documentary attested since 1416. The Bastion aimed to defend the southern side of the Brasov fortress wall. The initial architecture of the Ropemaker’s Bastion had long suffered because of the two fires in 1461, respectively 1689. After being rebuilt, was used as a material storehouse. A promenade on the Tampa foothills alleys you may see a house built around the bastion, the house built in 1794 by the Ropemaker guild and it is still inhabited. The history of the bastion gets up that in 1894 was sold for 2000 florins. Now you know that on Tiberiu Brediceanu alley at the foothill of Tampa, the Ropemaker’s Bastion looked after the fortress of Brasov.
